Bella

I pull up to campus bright and early Monday morning, parking directly beside the Carbone’s black Jeep. Hector leans against it while talking with another guy. He pauses as I turn the car off and step out, and I can feel his eyes on me.

The other guy is an alpha I don’t recognize. He’s passively handsome, scanning me from head to toe with appreciation. I’m wearing my standard black outfit with spike-heeled boots and a black duster jacket. Placing my sunglasses on top of my head, I ignore Hector in favor of smiling sweetly at the strange alpha. His eyes dip to my cherry-red lips, swirling with heat.

“I don’t think we’ve met,” he says, stepping forward with the swagger that only an alpha can possess. He sticks out his hand for me to shake. “I’m Kyle.” It’s an effort to contain a snort. Kyle. What a name.

“Belladonna.” I take his hand, only for him to bring it to his lips, placing a wet kiss on my knuckles.

I can feel his dominance pulsating against me. It feels like an invisible barrier bearing down on me, suffocating and thick. Every alpha tries it, thinking every omega they meet is going to throw themselves at their feet. I’ve learned to get past it for the most part, but it does make me sweat a bit.

“Only friends call her Bella, though, and I don’t think you qualify, man,” Hector says, letting a puff of cigarette smoke flow from his full lips. “Isn’t that right, Bell? And Kyle, you touch her again, and I’ll fucking murder you.”

I smile sweetly at him, too, tilting my head to the side. “People only call me Bell if they’re tired of living.” I don’t like nicknames. Especially from someone like Hector. I don’t trust him.

Kyle glances between the two of us. “Is this one yours?” He nods at me.

I say, “No,” at the same time that Hector says, “Yes.”

Hector smiles at my sharp glare. “This one belongs to my brother and me. She’s off limits. Spread the fucking word.” Hector runs a finger down my cheek gently before glaring at Kyle. “I’m serious; anyone who lays a fucking finger on this gorgeous skin, I’ll peel theirs from their bones and feed it to my hounds.”

“He’s full of shit. I don’t belong to anyone. You spread that shit, and I’ll hunt you down and show you what I almost showed the other Carbone last week. Got it, Kyle?”

Kyle’s head is on a swivel as he raises his hands, palms forward, and backs away grinning. “Uh, I’ve got places to be, so I’ll leave you to your little lover’s spat. Catch ya later, Hec.”

He saunters away toward the school as fast as he can without actually running away. I turn back to Hector but pause abruptly when I realize he’s taken several steps closer than he was before. He blows a puff of smoke in my face.

“Would belonging to me really be so bad?” he asks, his voice low and seductive. His own alpha dominance pushes against me.
